If cozy had a headquarters in downtown Vancouver, it would be Terrain. The shop sits inside a late-19th-century building with an original bank vault and a shared courtyard, and owner Marty Lopes roasts the beans himself out of a facility in Salmon Creek. It's the kind of place that makes you want to bring a book, or at least pretend you're the type of person who reads in coffee shops. Terrain also holds a clean bill of health from Clark County Public Health's restaurant inspection records, for whatever that's worth to the detail-oriented among us (hi, it's me).

Here's where I show my cards. I love Bleu Door Bakery, but it's not about the coffee for me, it's the twice-baked Nutella croissants, the honey pecan sticky buns, and the fresh-from-scratch breads that make this Uptown Village bakery my actual weekly stop. Owner Bonnie Brasure has been baking here since 2011, and everything is made in small batches with local ingredients. Grab something from the walk-up Express Window at 2413 Main Street and eat it at one of the outdoor tables, ideally while it's still warm.
