Things to Do in Vancouver WA This Weekend (Apr 24–26, 2026)

Spring in full bloom — lilacs, garden shows, Earth Day dogs, farm markets, and Portland's best Sunday flea.

This weekend across Southwest Washington and Portland, spring is running the show — and the lineup reflects it. On Saturday, you can wander through acres of peak-bloom lilacs just 20 minutes north of Vancouver, browse more than 200 vendors at Clark County's biggest home and garden show, or head to Washougal for a free Earth Day celebration that ends with a dog costume contest judged by a FOX 12 news anchor. On Sunday, a working Highland cattle farm in La Center transforms into a buzzing artisan market, while Portland's beloved monthly flea market takes over the Central Eastside with 80+ makers and vintage sellers.

Weekends like this are exactly why people fall in love with the Pacific Northwest — and why so many who visit end up staying. For more on what makes this region so livable, check out my guides to Vancouver, Washington, why people are moving to Vancouver, WA, and the pros and cons of living in Portland, Oregon.

Here are five events worth knowing about this weekend in Vancouver WA, Clark County, and Portland.

Lilac Days - 2026

If there is one spring event that defines the spirit of this region, it is Lilac Days at Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens in Woodland, WA — just about 20 minutes north of Vancouver. Running through May 10, 2026, this annual festival draws visitors from across the Pacific Northwest to experience what peak lilac bloom actually looks like when you give it a century of devoted cultivation to work with.

Hulda Klager herself was a self-taught horticulturist who spent decades hybridizing new lilac varieties from her Woodland property, eventually developing over 250 varieties. The gardens were swept away by floods multiple times and rebuilt from root cuttings given by neighbors — a resilience story baked right into the soil. Today, the gardens are a Washington State Heritage Site, and Lilac Days is the annual celebration of everything she built. Strolling the winding paths during peak bloom, with color and fragrance in every direction, is one of those experiences that sounds simple until you're standing in the middle of it.

This weekend falls right in the sweet spot of the season. Visitors can wander the garden at their own pace, join guided tours, and snap photos that genuinely don't need much editing. Only ADA-recognized service dogs are permitted on the grounds.

What to Expect

  • Peak lilac bloom across 250+ varieties developed by horticulturist Hulda Klager
  • Scenic garden paths, guided tours, and exceptional photo opportunities
  • Washington State Heritage Site with over a century of horticultural history
  • Located just 20 minutes north of Vancouver in Woodland, WA
  • Open daily 10am–4pm through May 10 — this weekend is prime timing
  • Children 12 & under admitted free; only ADA service dogs allowed

💡 Pro Tip from a Local

Go in the morning on a cloudy day if you want the best photos — the diffused light makes the colors pop without harsh shadows. Weekday crowds are lighter, but Saturday and Sunday at Hulda Klager have a community-event energy that's worth experiencing. Combine this with a stop at a Woodland coffee shop or lunch spot afterward and you've got a full morning outing. Wear comfortable shoes — the paths are well-maintained but you'll want to wander.

Home & Garden Idea Fair — Clark County 2026

📅Saturday & Sunday, April 25–26, 2026
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM both days
📍Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 NE Delfel Rd, Ridgefield, WA 98642
💲Free admission • Parking: $6
📞(360) 397-2459

Home & Garden Idea Fair

If you have been thinking about a backyard project, a kitchen refresh, or just want to see what 200-plus vendors under one roof looks like — this is the weekend. The Clark Public Utilities Home and Garden Idea Fair is billed as Southwest Washington's premier home and garden show, and it earns that title. It's one of the biggest annual events at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds in Ridgefield, drawing gardeners, homeowners, DIYers, and anyone who genuinely loves walking through a well-stocked plant sale.

The event features an enormous range of exhibitors covering everything from landscaping and outdoor living to home improvement, interior design, and energy efficiency — fitting for a show hosted by Clark Public Utilities. The plant sale is one of the largest in the region, which alone is worth the $6 parking fee for serious gardeners. Add in live DIY demonstrations and hands-on activities for kids, and you have an event that works whether you're shopping seriously or just browsing for inspiration.

Admission is free both days, and the show runs 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. With spring planting season opening up, this is genuinely useful timing — you can leave with a garden plan, a cart full of plants, and a contractor's business card all in the same visit.

What to Expect

  • Southwest Washington's largest annual home and garden show — 200+ vendors
  • One of the region's biggest plant sales — serious selection for spring planting
  • Live DIY tips and demonstrations throughout both days
  • Kids' activities on the show floor
  • Free admission both days; parking is $6 at the fairgrounds
  • Hosted by Clark Public Utilities — energy efficiency and sustainability exhibitors included

💡 Pro Tip from a Local

Go Saturday if you want the best selection at the plant sale — popular varieties sell out over the weekend. Bring a list of what you're looking to tackle in your yard or home so you can actually shop with intention rather than wandering in circles. Wear comfortable shoes — this is a big venue and you'll cover a lot of ground. If you're planning a bigger project, bring dimensions and photos — contractors and designers at these shows love it when you come prepared.

Paws for the Planet: Earth Day in Washougal

📅Saturday, April 25, 2026
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Pet Parade at 12:30 PM | Costume Contest at 1:00 PM
📍Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main St, Washougal, WA
💲Free

Paws for the Planet: Earth Day in Washougal

Earth Day was April 22nd — and the City of Washougal is marking it in the most Pacific Northwest way imaginable: a free outdoor event at Reflection Plaza on Main Street, centered on environmental education, community connection, and a dog costume contest with a celebrity judge. This year's theme is "Paws for the Planet," and it is exactly as charming as it sounds.

The morning runs from 10am to 1pm with environmental activities, community vendors, and education focused on simple, everyday actions that keep Washougal clean and livable. Then at 12:30pm, registered dogs (licensed, vaccinated, leashed) parade through the plaza. At 1pm, FOX 12 Oregon's Carly Kennelly takes the judging seat for the costume contest, with three categories: Best in Show, Most Unique, and Spirit of Earth Day.

The City is also giving away 240 free Western White Pine seedlings to Washougal residents as part of a long-term effort to expand tree canopy across the city — a genuinely meaningful environmental initiative with a measurable impact on the urban heat map. For families with dogs, this is a rare event that puts your pet front and center in a community celebration. Registration is required for the pet parade and costume contest; walk-ins are welcome for general attendance.

What to Expect

  • Free Earth Day event hosted by the City of Washougal — family-friendly and pet-welcoming
  • Dog costume contest judged by FOX 12 Oregon's Carly Kennelly — categories: Best in Show, Most Unique, Spirit of Earth Day
  • Pet parade at 12:30 PM (registration required; licensed and vaccinated dogs only)
  • 240 free Western White Pine seedlings for Washougal residents — first come, first served
  • Environmental education, community vendors, and activities throughout the morning
  • Leash law in effect; all pets must remain under owner control at all times

💡 Pro Tip from a Local

Register your dog for the parade and contest ahead of time at cityofwashougal.us — spots are capped at licensed, vaccinated animals only and the contest categories reward creativity, so a little costume planning goes a long way. Arrive by 10am to enjoy the full event before the parade kicks off. If you're picking up seedlings, bring a box or bag for transport. Washougal's Main Street area has good coffee and food nearby for a post-event outing with your pup.

Little Moo & Makers Market at Gather and Feast Farm

📅Sunday, April 26, 2026 (also May 3 & May 10)
10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
📍Gather and Feast Farm, 2706 NE 369th St, La Center, WA 98629
💲Free admission • Free parking
📞(360) 936-6023

Little Moo & Makers Market

This one has a very specific kind of magic. Gather and Feast Farm in La Center — a working Highland cattle operation about 30 minutes north of Vancouver — is hosting a Sunday market series all spring, and the April 26 date is the opening weekend. They're calling it the Little Moo & Makers Market, and the name gives you the vibe exactly: local artisans, cottage food producers, farm-made goods, wood-fired food, and Highland cows wandering the property doing what Highland cows do best (being absolutely photogenic).

The farm is also in baby animal season, which means you may be sharing the afternoon with piglets, calves, and whatever other new arrivals have shown up. The market itself mixes farmers and ranchers with local crafters and handmade goods vendors, mostly outdoors, with the farm setting providing the kind of backdrop that makes even a Saturday market feel like a destination. Admission and parking are both free — this is genuinely a zero-barrier event.

Sunday dates run 10am to 7pm, which is generous timing — enough to make it a late-morning outing or a full afternoon. Additional market dates are May 3 and May 10, so if this weekend doesn't work, you have two more chances to catch it this spring.

What to Expect

  • Farm vendor market with local makers, crafters, farmers, and cottage food producers
  • Highland cows on the property — it's baby animal season, so expect calves and piglets too
  • Wood-fired food available on site
  • Mostly outdoor vendors — dress for spring PNW weather
  • Free admission and free parking — zero barrier to entry
  • Also running May 3 and May 10 if this Sunday doesn't work

💡 Pro Tip from a Local

La Center is a gorgeous drive if you take the scenic route up through Ridgefield — worth the extra few minutes if you're coming from Vancouver or Portland. Bring cash for the vendors, especially cottage food producers who often don't run card readers. The market runs until 7pm, which is rare for a farm event — late afternoon is a lovely time to be there when the light gets golden and the crowds thin out a little. If you have kids or anyone who loves animals, budget some time just to wander the farm itself.

Portland Flea — April 2026

📅Sunday, April 26, 2026
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
📍The Redd on Salmon Street, 831 SE Salmon St, Portland, OR 97214
💲Free

Portland Flea

If you're heading across the river on Sunday, the Portland Flea is one of the city's most consistent and genuinely enjoyable monthly markets. Held on the last Sunday of each month from April through October at The Redd on Salmon Street in the Central Eastside, it draws 80+ local artists, makers, vintage curators, and sellers of handmade and locally sourced goods — all in one place, all free to browse.

What makes the Portland Flea stand out from a typical market is the curation. This isn't a flea market in the jumble-sale sense — it's a gathering of people who take what they make and sell seriously, and the quality shows. You'll find vintage clothing and furniture, handmade ceramics, original art, jewelry, plants, and all the category-defying items that end up in the "made in Portland" bucket. The Redd is a great venue — a converted industrial space with character, located in one of the city's most interesting neighborhoods.

The market is free to attend and runs 11am to 4pm. The April date is particularly good because it's the season opener — vendors tend to bring fresh inventory and there's a first-market-of-the-year energy that makes it feel like an event worth showing up for.

What to Expect

  • 80+ local artists, makers, and vintage curators — new and returning vendors each month
  • Handmade goods, original art, vintage finds, jewelry, ceramics, plants, and more
  • April date is the season opener — fresh inventory and first-market energy
  • The Redd on Salmon Street — a character-filled venue in Portland's Central Eastside
  • Free to attend, 11am–4pm; held last Sunday of the month April–October
  • Walkable from SE Portland and bikeable from most of inner Portland

💡 Pro Tip from a Local

Arrive closer to 11am if you want first pick of the good vintage finds — seasoned market-goers know the best pieces go early. The Central Eastside has excellent coffee and food nearby (Alma Chocolate, Stumptown, Little T Baker), so build in time for a pre- or post-market stop. Street parking on SE Salmon and surrounding blocks can fill up by noon, so consider biking or rideshare. Bring a tote bag — you will buy something.
