5 Things to Do in Vancouver WA This Weekend — APPLETREE Marathon, BARK Ranger Day, Musicians in the Park & More (August 28–30, 2026)

If you've got a four-legged companion who loves a good history lesson, this one's for you. At 9:30 AM, a Fort Vancouver Volunteer BARK Ranger Ambassador leads a guided walk through the historic site, covering how to safely enjoy the park with your dog while helping protect park resources, wildlife, and fellow visitors.

These volunteer-led tours frame the park's history through the lens of the BARK program itself, participants learn what BARK stands for, explore the park's landscapes and history, and pick up practical tips on being a responsible steward of public lands with a dog in tow. Tours begin at the Visitor Center and continue down to the reconstructed fort.

This is the last Free Friday Night Movie in the Parks of the summer, and it's going out with Superman (2025, PG-13) in its ASL version, with on-screen signing of dialogue for the characters throughout. When Superman gets drawn into conflicts at home and abroad, his actions are questioned, giving tech billionaire Lex Luthor the opening to try to get the Man of Steel out of the way for good. Intrepid reporter Lois Lane and Superman's four-legged companion, Krypto, are along for the ride.

Bring the whole family for one last outdoor movie night before summer wraps up. Like the rest of the series, expect a relaxed park setting where you can spread out a blanket and let the kids run around before the film starts.

This lunchtime concert series, a partnership between the City of Ridgefield and the Ridgefield Art Association, wraps up its Friday lineup today with Morris "Mo Mack" McClellan performing folk, Americana, country, blues, and rock and roll at Davis Park, right at the corner of Mill St and Main Ave in downtown Ridgefield.

The series has run Wednesdays and select Fridays all summer, July 1 through September 2, with a rotating lineup of local musicians. Bring a picnic lunch or grab takeout from a nearby Downtown restaurant, there are a few benches, but folding chairs are worth bringing too.

Now in its 9th year, the PeaceHealth APPLETREE is a Boston-Qualifying Marathon with a new First Responder's Relay Marathon added this year, alongside the Half Marathon and Sunset 5K. Billed as a "Run Through History," the flat, fast, and scenic course winds through Fort Vancouver, Officer's Row, the Army Barracks, Pearson Airport (the oldest operating airport in the USA), the Historical Old Apple Tree, and along the Columbia River.

Presented by Why Racing Events, this is one of the more historically rich race courses in the region, there's genuinely enough to see that the miles fly by, whether you're running the full marathon or the shorter Sunset 5K.

Whole wheat never tasted so good. Cedar Creek Grist Mill, a working historic mill out in Woodland, hosts Treat Day every last Saturday of the month, with cookies, cakes, muffins, scones, and even dog biscuits made fresh with the mill's own stone-ground flour. The lineup changes every month, always new, always great.

It's a bit of a drive from Vancouver proper, but it pairs well with a Saturday out exploring the north end of Clark County, and it's a genuinely unique, low-key stop if you haven't seen a working 19th-century grist mill in action.
