A beautiful variety of fresh bagels with cream cheese - perfect for National Bagel Day!

There's something undeniably comforting about a perfectly toasted bagel on a chilly Pacific Northwest morning. As we celebrate National Bagel Day this Thursday, January 15th, I'm excited to share some of my favorite bagel spots right here in our corner of Southwest Washington.

As a realtor who spends my days showing homes throughout Vancouver and Camas, I've discovered that one of the best parts of getting to know a neighborhood is finding its hidden culinary gems. And let me tell you, our local bagel scene is thriving in ways that might surprise newcomers to the area.

Why Bagels Matter to Community

When I'm working with clients relocating to the Vancouver-Camas area, they often ask about the "vibe" of different neighborhoods. I've found that local coffee shops and bagel joints tell you so much about a community's character. These are the places where neighbors catch up, remote workers set up camp, and weekend mornings feel a little more special.

A great bagel shop becomes part of your routine, part of what makes a house feel like home. It's where you grab breakfast sandwiches before soccer games, where you pick up a dozen for Sunday brunch with friends, where the staff eventually knows your order by heart.

My Go-To Spots

While I won't play favorites (every neighborhood deserves to discover its own beloved bagel spot!), I can tell you what I look for: that perfect chewy-yet-crispy texture, creative but not overly complicated flavors, and that warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to linger over your coffee.

Here are a few of my personal go-to spots around Vancouver and Camas:

  • Cedar Street Bagels – A Camas favorite, perfect for a classic everything bagel or one of their delicious breakfast sandwiches. The cozy vibe makes it a great spot to grab a morning bagel before heading out for errands or a walk along the river.
  • Seize the Bagel – With multiple locations, they consistently serve up fresh bagels that satisfy any craving, from sweet to savory. Their variety makes it easy to find something new each visit.
  • The Bagel and Lox at Gold Cup Café – If you’re looking for bagel-based goodies, this one’s a must-try. The bagels are dense and flavorful, and the toppings are always fresh. It’s one of those spots where you feel like you’re getting a little extra love with every bite.

The Vancouver-Camas area has seen wonderful growth in our local food scene over the past few years, and our bagel options reflect that. Whether you're craving a classic everything bagel with lox and schmear or something more adventurous, you'll find spots that take their craft seriously.

Making National Bagel Day Special

Here's my challenge to you this Thursday: skip your usual coffee run and try somewhere new. Pick up a variety pack and discover your new favorite flavor. Bring a dozen to your office and become everyone's hero. Or do what I love to do—grab a bagel sandwich and eat it at one of our beautiful local parks while soaking in those Gorge views.

Pro Tip: Many local bagel shops offer special deals or limited-edition flavors for National Bagel Day. Call ahead or check their social media to see what they have planned for Thursday!

The Neighborhood Connection

One thing I've learned in real estate is that the best neighborhoods aren't just about the homes themselves. They're about the community fabric—the local businesses, the gathering spots, the places that give an area its unique personality. Supporting our local bagel shops means investing in the kind of vibrant, connected neighborhoods we all want to call home.

So this National Bagel Day, I encourage you to celebrate local. Try that bagel place you've been driving past for months. Strike up a conversation with the person in line behind you. Maybe you'll discover your new favorite spot, or maybe you'll just have a great bagel—either way, it's a win.

And if you happen to be house hunting in the Vancouver-Camas area and want the inside scoop on which neighborhoods have the best breakfast spots (among other things!), you know where to find me at realtorcas.com.

Happy National Bagel Day, friends! May your bagels be perfectly toasted and your cream cheese plentiful.

What's your favorite local bagel spot? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

P.S. Since we're talking bagels, I have to share my order: jalapeño cheddar or asiago cheese bagel with plain cream cheese. And I mean the real stuff—none of that whipped nonsense. Give me the dense, full-fat, spreadable-with-effort kind of cream cheese that actually tastes like something. What's your go-to bagel and spread combo?
