by Cassandra Marks

Happy Earth Day, Vancouver!

Your 2026 guide to local events, favorite parks, statewide adventures — and the fascinating Clark County connection to the very first Earth Day.

Earth Day 2026 in Vancouver, WA — Wednesday, April 22nd. Cassandra Marks (Realtor Cas) covers every local event worth attending: the Earth Day Celebration at Vancouver Mall, the StreamTeam tree planting at Columbia Springs, Waterfront Park cleanup, WSU Master Gardeners at Pacific Park, and more across Clark County and SW Washington. Plus — did you know the organizer of the very first Earth Day in 1970, Denis Hayes, is a Camas, WA resident? Sustainability runs deep here. This guide also covers all 146 Washington State Parks free on Earth Day, the coast cleanup, and why Clark County is one of the most nature-rich places to call home in the Pacific Northwest.

Earth Day is one of my favorite times of year to slow down, get outside, and appreciate why so many people choose to move to Vancouver, WA in the first place. We live in one of the most naturally beautiful corners of the country. Let's celebrate it.

Before we get into the 2026 events, I want to share something that genuinely delighted me: the very first Earth Day was organized by a Clark County local. Denis Hayes — who lives in Camas, WA — coordinated the original Earth Day in 1970 while still a Harvard student. Over 20 million Americans participated. Sustainability isn't just trending here — it's in our DNA.

Clark County's Earth Day Legacy

The First Earth Day Was Organized by One of Our Own

Denis Hayes — Camas, Washington

On April 22, 1970, over 20 million Americans took to the streets for the first Earth Day — organized by a Harvard student named Denis Hayes. What most people don't know: Denis Hayes is a resident of Camas, WA, right here in Clark County.

He went on to co-found the Bullitt Foundation in Seattle — one of the most influential environmental foundations in the Pacific Northwest — and has continued championing sustainability from our corner of the world ever since.

When you celebrate Earth Day in Clark County, you're celebrating in the hometown of the person who started it all. That's a pretty remarkable thing.
