Your input is shaping Our Vancouver! The City of Vancouver is hosting community presentations and Q&A sessions where you can see how your feedback, City priorities, and state requirements are informing Vancouver's draft Comprehensive Plan and draft Zoning Code. This is your opportunity to learn more about Vancouver's 20-year vision and weigh-in on final details before they're finalized.

The Our Vancouver Comprehensive Plan outlines the city's growth strategy, housing policies, transportation infrastructure, economic development priorities, and environmental goals through 2045. Join city planners, elected officials, and community members to understand how these policies will shape Vancouver's neighborhoods, housing options, and quality of life for the next two decades. Whether you're a homeowner, renter, business owner, or concerned citizen, this plan affects everyone who calls Vancouver home.

Session Schedule

  • Thursday, February 19 - Virtual presentation (online)
  • Thursday, February 26 - Virtual presentation (online)
  • Saturday, February 28 - In-person at City Hall (415 W 6th Street)
  • Wednesday, March 4 - In-person at Cascade Park Library

  • Multiple opportunities to attend in format that works for you

💡 Pro Tip from a Local

RSVP at www.surveyhero.com/c/zoningRSVP to receive presentation materials and Zoom links (for virtual sessions) in advance. The comprehensive plan and zoning code directly affect property values, housing availability, neighborhood character, and development patterns throughout Vancouver—if you're a homeowner, planning to buy property, or care about Vancouver's future, this is your chance to understand and influence these critical policies. The Saturday, February 28 session at City Hall is particularly convenient for working professionals who can't attend weekday sessions. Virtual sessions offer flexibility if you can't attend in-person. Come prepared with questions about how proposed zoning changes might affect your neighborhood, housing density, transportation improvements, or economic development in your area. City staff and planners will be available to explain technical details and answer specific questions. Review the draft plan materials at beheardvancouver.org/plan2045 before attending so you can ask informed questions. This comprehensive plan happens only every 10-20 years, so this is a rare opportunity to shape Vancouver's long-term direction. Topics typically covered include: residential zoning and housing diversity, commercial corridor development, transportation and transit expansion, parks and open space planning, climate action goals, and economic development strategies. Whether you support growth, have concerns about neighborhood changes, or want to understand how Vancouver is planning for its future population of 250,000+ residents, these sessions provide transparency and community voice in city planning decisions!

Arrive early, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings, to beat the crowds and have the best experience with shorter lines for activities. If you have a child with sensory sensitivities, take advantage of the special Sensory Session on Saturday from 8-9 AM—this quieter, lower-stimulation hour is designed specifically for children who might be overwhelmed by crowds and noise. Wear comfortable shoes as you'll be walking and standing throughout the exhibits. Bring your camera or phone for amazing photo opportunities with the dinosaurs—kids love posing next to (or on!) the prehistoric creatures. Plan to spend 2-3 hours to fully experience everything Jurassic Quest offers. Food and drinks are typically available for purchase, but check the website for current policies on outside food. This is an indoor event, so weather won't be an issue. The event attracts families from across the region, so weekday (Friday afternoon) tends to be less crowded than the weekend. Tibetan Sand Mandala Event

Tibetan Sand Mandala: Ancient Art of Compassion

📅February 23–27, 2026
9:00 AM – 6:30 PM daily (see schedule)
📍Cannell Library, Clark College, Vancouver
💲Free & Open to Community

Join us as we welcome a group of Tibetan Buddhist monks from South India who will be visiting Clark College to construct a Sand Mandala in Cannell Library from February 23-27, 2026. This free event is open to the community and offers a rare opportunity to witness an ancient sacred art form being created before your eyes. This project can be appreciated simply as a piece of "time-based art," but according to Tibetan Buddhist belief, the creation of a Sand Mandala is meant to create a profound experience of Compassion.

The positive effects of a Sand Mandala are believed to radiate out over an entire region, blessing the environment and the beings therein, as an effort for world peace. Once created, the Sand Mandala is destroyed in the Closing Ceremony, as a lesson in the impermanence of all life. The opening and closing ceremonies are very popular, featuring traditional Tibetan Buddhist chanting and music. Visitors can observe the monks meticulously placing millions of grains of colored sand to create intricate geometric patterns, a process requiring intense focus, patience, and spiritual devotion.

What to Expect

  • Opening Ceremony Monday Feb 23, 9:00-9:30 AM with Tibetan Buddhist chanting and music
  • Five days of continuous mandala construction visible to public (Feb 23-27)
  • Sacred Tibetan Art presentation Thursday Feb 26, 2-3 PM in Cannell Room
  • Closing Ceremony Friday Feb 27, 1:30-2:30 PM with traditional music and rituals
  • Sand disbursal ceremony at Vancouver Waterfront Park, Friday 3-4 PM
  • Opportunity to witness ancient sacred art creation process
  • Educational experience about Tibetan Buddhist traditions and philosophy
  • Free admission and open to all community members

💡 Pro Tip from a Local

This is an extraordinary cultural experience you don't want to miss! The mandala construction takes place at Cannell Library on Clark College's main campus (1933 Fort Vancouver Way). Parking is available in campus lots—check the Clark College website for visitor parking information and campus maps. The opening ceremony on Monday morning (Feb 23, 9:00-9:30 AM) and closing ceremony on Friday afternoon (Feb 27, 1:30-2:30 PM) are the most popular times, so arrive early if you want to attend these special events. However, visiting during the construction days (Tuesday-Thursday) offers a more peaceful, contemplative experience where you can spend as much time as you'd like watching the monks work. The level of detail and precision is absolutely mesmerizing—you could watch for hours! Don't miss the Sacred Tibetan Art presentation on Thursday afternoon (2-3 PM) if you want to learn more about the cultural and spiritual significance of this practice. The sand disbursal ceremony at Vancouver Waterfront Park on Friday (3-4 PM) is the culmination of the week—witnessing the intentional destruction of this beautiful artwork is a powerful reminder of impermanence. Note that transportation and parking at the Waterfront are not provided by Clark College. This is a quiet, reflective event, so please be respectful of the sacred nature of the work and maintain a peaceful atmosphere. Photography is typically allowed but ask staff if you're unsure. This rare opportunity to witness Tibetan monks creating sacred art is a gift to our community—don't miss it!
